All shampoos clean and remove oil from the hair – which many of them do very well. The harsh ones will remove all the oil including the essential oils. Even milder shampoos will remove a lot of the oil, but are better because they do not strip your natural oils too much.

However, shampooing increases the dryness and frizziness of the hair. It is because the lathering feature creates strong imbalances in the scalp – by the Vata and Pitta going up and the nutritional part (i.e Kapha) completely going down.

Unfortunately, people have to use conditioners to fix this dry/frizz problem. But they cause a bigger issue, because most conditioners work by coating the hair with silicones, anti-static agents, polymers etc to make it seem shiny and smooth. They do not fix the underlying balance issues.

Also, shampoos are on your scalp for barely two minutes – this is not enough time for any growth ingredient to really provide nutrition to your hair.

This is why (especially if you use a shampoo that imbalances your scalp), you need a rebalancing & nourishment solution – other than a conditioner, to immediately rebalance it.
